Shayne Martell Bowen (born August 29, 1954) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since April 2006.

Biography

Bowen was born in Rigby, Idaho. From 1973 to 1975, Bowen was an LDS Church missionary in the Chile Santiago Mission of the church. During his time in Santiago he was briefly imprisoned by the Augusto Pinochet regime under suspicions of espionage. He was released when they realized he was simply a missionary. After his mission he studied at Brigham Young University, where he received a degree in English and a minor in Spanish in 1977.

Bowen was employed in the insurance business and was president and owner of Bowen Insurance, now known as BowenGroup. He is married to Lynette Mortensen and they have seven children: Leisle, Emily, Heath, Trevor, Brecca, Tyson, and Devyn.

From 2000 to 2003, Bowen was the president of the LDS Church's Spain Barcelona Mission. From 2005 to 2006, he was an area seventy. Immediately prior to this, Bowen was the president of the BYU–Idaho First Stake. From 1990 to 1999, Bowen had been the president of the Idaho Falls Idaho West Stake. He has also served as a bishop in the LDS Church.

At the April 2006 general conference of the LDS Church, Bowen was accepted by the membership as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. In 2008, he was residing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as president of the church's South America South Area.
